Garden Layouts
Garden model railroad layouts are the most popular
type of layout in the ILSR. Although similar in basic function to an indoor
model railroad, the scenery is the big difference. Much of the
landscape in a garden railroad is natural and has the added bonus of
making garden railroading a family hobby.
The trains present all the usual railroad technical
challenges of laying track, maintaining engines and rolling stock,
providing power and building structures. Added to that, in garden
railroading, is the whole new world of managing the "garden"
side of the venture. In many cases, the lady of the house finds the
garden side much more interesting than figuring out which light
emitting diode makes the best
caboose marker light. This can make the garden railroad a truly shared
hobby.
