  Rio Grande Railroad

Bud And Nancy Hunter

A Featured Layout on the 2008 Four Club Tour
Hosted by the Indiana Large Scale Railroaders Club

The Rio Grande Railroad has a total of 325 feet of track featuring a mainline narrow gauge, plus a separate logging line. The water features include a waterfall and two ponds stocked with gold fish. Two railroad stations (Chama, NM and Willow Creek CO), give illusion of a busy railroad serving across state lines (much like prototype).

Visitors usually notice the manicured landscape of scale-like trees and groundcovers. Another focal point is a 8-foot railroad bridge crossing Willow Creek. Having been in HO for 40 years, developing a railroad theme was important to me. Hence, most of my locomotives and rolling stock have been re-lettered for the Rio Grande Railroad and are fitted with Kadee couplers for realistic operation as well as looks. Motive power is all steam: 3 Moguls, 1 Forney and a K-27.

The Rio Grande Railroad was the featured cover story for Garden Railways magazine in June of 2000.
